he Lexmark X3480 is another all-in-one device, it has three memory card slots provide for all the major types, including xD and Microdrive. It has a single-line, 16-character backlit LCD panel that is designed to be used away from a PC.
Using a single ink cartridge makes the X3480 easy to set up and operate - an advantage that Lexmark is quick to emphasise. While it does make things simpler it can also cause you to waste a lot of unused ink when one colour runs out before the rest.
Printing from a memory card can be a bit tricky without an LCD monitor. But, Lexmark makes the best of it by printing a proof sheet, where you select your images, number and size of prints and the type of paper, by filling in little circles and scanning. Instructions appear on the LCD strip and the process is pretty straightforward, if a bit wasteful of ink.
The X3480 is a fairly ok printer, but there are some visible compromises in quality because the three-colour ink cartridge contains no black ink. You also lose quality when printing any black text because they use a technology to combine colour ink rather than using deep, pure black.
