HP Photosmart A516

Thp photosmart a516he HP Photosmart A516 has been released, for a start HP are saying this printer offers nearly waterproof output, which in fairness I can’t say works or not as I didnt try it. Anyway the A516 can print from most memory cards as well as PictBridge cameras and computers.

The LCD screen is 1.5 inches, and is set at a fixed angle so you may have to move the printer to see it well. We all know to well it’s still a big improvement over not having an LCD at all, which is what you usually get at this price level.

The LCD allows you to preview photos on the display and if needed correct red eye, sharpness, and color with the convenient HP Photo Fix button. Prints are Print 4 x 6. The Print speed is a little slow, but within the typical range for small-format photo printers.

* Color or Monochrome: 1-pass color
* Ink Jet Type: Dedicated Photo
* Connection Type: USB
* Maximum Standard Paper Size: 4″ x 8″
* Number of Cartridges: 1
* Number of Ink Colours: 3
* Direct Printing from Cameras: Yes

Lexmark X3480

Tlexmark-x3480.jpghe Lexmark X3480 is another all-in-one device, it has three memory card slots provide for all the major types, including xD and Microdrive. It has a single-line, 16-character backlit LCD panel that is designed to be used away from a PC.

Using a single ink cartridge makes the X3480 easy to set up and operate - an advantage that Lexmark is quick to emphasise. While it does make things simpler it can also cause you to waste a lot of unused ink when one colour runs out before the rest.

Printing from a memory card can be a bit tricky without an LCD monitor. But, Lexmark makes the best of it by printing a proof sheet, where you select your images, number and size of prints and the type of paper, by filling in little circles and scanning. Instructions appear on the LCD strip and the process is pretty straightforward, if a bit wasteful of ink.

The X3480 is a fairly ok printer, but there are some visible compromises in quality because the three-colour ink cartridge contains no black ink. You also lose quality when printing any black text because they use a technology to combine colour ink rather than using deep, pure black.

Brother HL-2040 Review

brother HL 2040The Brother HL-2040 Printer is primarily for test printing, at 20-ppm your assured excellent text quality. It’s a good value printer, with fast performance and a 250-sheet paper capacity that’s appropriate and easily large enough for personal printing.

In a review on ciao.co.uk they seem to not like this printer…here’s what they think

Then there is the toner cartridge, this appears to give you about a 5 page warning of when it’s going to run out! There also appears to be no consistency on how long they will last.

Finally there appears to be a problem with the way the printer tells if the toner is used us, this could mean that usable cartridges are being discarded, and at between £30 - £35 that’s too much.

So overall this is a basic printer and aimed at the low requirement user but for the price it’s got to hold it’s own.

HP Photosmart Pro B9180

Thp photosmart pro b9180he HP Photosmart Pro B9180 printer is designed for photographers who need fast, durable printing up to A3+ in size, believe it or not the B9180 uses eight large cartridges of specially developed Vivera pigment-based inks and has four print heads with over 1800 nozzles per head.

This printer is really aimed at professional photographers and semi-professionals but don’t let that put you off if you’re looking for quality. If you’re a Photoshop user HP have included a Photoshop plugins called ProPrint plug-in for Photoshop. The have also included the HP Colour Centre software.

Overall, the HP B9180 is hard to beat. If your looking for quality prints this might just be the printer for you. With the new pigment inks this printer give you more colour and dynamic range from their prints than what was previously available.

canon pixma mp810The Canon PIXMA MP810 is a new all-in-one-printer with some extra new stuff that’s never been seen, so what’s new? well Canon have introducted a new Easy-Schroll Wheel interface (that’s what they like to call it) that allows you to control the device functions quickly and easly.

In addition to this they have also added the “HOME” and “NAVI” buttons to the device’s operational panel. When you push the NAVI button, it displays the machines on screen guide, which includes how-to recommendations for the most common functions.
